I HATE grocery shopping. Who doesn't though right? Well, to make matters even worse are the circumstances under which I have been grocery shopping lately. Here is how it goes.
1. I grocery shop
2. I unload my full cart on the belt...all heavy items first and squishable items last
3. I nervously watch the bagger bag my groceries
4. I pay
5. I push my cart 2 feet and rearrange all of my bags because SOME HOW ALL OF THE HEAVY ITEMS were placed ON TOP of the squishable items. milk, soda, canned goods all on top of the bread, eggs, and fruit
6. I go to customer service because now my eggs are broken, juice boxes are leaking, and bread is squished
7. I wait...very impatiently...while the bagger runs around the store trying to find the items that got ruined
8. I make it home tired and hungry with an even crankier toddler
9. I unload my groceries and find even more ruined food
ARG!
SERIOUSLY!!!! There is nothing worse than having your groceries squished and ruined after buying them. Where I grew up, we were able to bag our own groceries. I seriously miss it. It is such a hassle to watch someone else handle my valuables. AND not only do i watch things get squished, but often the bagger has just finished wiping his snotty nose with his bare hands, and then proceeds to handly my food. YUCK!
So, what do I do?
I have no idea.
I don't want to change stores unless it's my last option, and I don't want to yell at the bagger.
So, what would you do?

I personally LOVE grocery shopping. It's one of my favorite hobbies.
Maybe you could just ask to bag your own groceries? I find when I'm using my reusable shopping bags, I feel less weird reaching over the belt to bag them myself, or save my lettuce from getting smooshed. I'm not shy about speaking up, sort of joking with the baggers saying, "Hey, don't squish my [insert whatever they just put on the bottom of the bag]!"
ugh...so annoying! at the beginning, tell the bagger directly to put the heavy things on the bottom. and then watch them and tell them if they are doing it wrong. in my opinion, it's totally worth it to be a little up front & maybe over-the-top instead of dealing with the mess at the end.
i like to use reusable bags. the baggers don't like it, but i feel like they pack them up better (with more like items together) and then you also less bags to carry in the house!
Lol, before I got to the end of your post, I was going to say, "CHANGE STORES!" Where do you shop???? I've shopped at every grocery store in the valley at one point or another and I've never had that horrible of an experience, so I'm curious? If it happens routinely though, I would make a complaint. Or change stores =0)
I say to forget that store and drive down and go grocery shopping with me in Midvale at WinCo! Love bagging my own groceries.
Or...I will put my food on the belt in the order I want it bagged. (I have a little OCD in that matter.) So start with all your heavy stuff and end with the ruinables!
I haven't really had an issue with that, but I'm not super picky about how they bag it either. I am the type that would speak up and just tell them how I felt. But then again I would hate to bag my own groceries too :)
So...consensus is to say something or switch stores...AHHHHHH! I hate pregnancy hormones. I think that it makes me afraid to talk to people when I shouldn't be! Thanks for the advice!
Logan needs a WinCO :)
Jess...yes it does!!!! It is my favorite store in the whole world! I'm being serious. In my family, every other grocery store is practically a swear word. I'm not kidding!!! So glad you have one!
We have friends here that like to lament the no WinCo situation with us. Even though my parents have to drive 1/2 hour, it's their favorite (and conveniently located by the temple. Win-win for them.) I miss good bulk foods! Over Christmas we went to one while we were in Boise. My bro-in-law had never been to one, but when we pulled up he got all excited and said, "We can get granola!!!" because we'd given him some before. Oh, WinCo. Heartbreaker.
