My BIG Surprise and Christmas Day

On Christmas Eve while in the car, I managed to explain quite well to my Mr. that in years past, I always knew what he was getting me for Christmas. Seriously.I always know.
To his credit, I HATE not being able to guess what I'm getting.I get that from my dad.
This year...completely different story. My socks were completely knocked off.

Here's what happened.

I thought I was getting a kindle. It was #1 on my list, and I had only mentioned, left little notes, and made him write it down a hundred times. That's what I was getting. I even "over heard" my brother in law talking about what I was getting. Well, we came home from all of our Christmas Eve festivities noticing that our Christmas lights had been turned off. I was sure they were on. "Oh well, I'll just turn them back on." No biggie. I got inside. "Hm. Our Christmas tree lights aren't on in the front window." So I go into our front room to turn them on.
"OH MY GOSH! ARE YOU SERIOUS?"

Isn't she beautiful? You should hear her play. Literally sounds like a baby grand.
Of course when I walked in the red bow was in the front, and there wasn't any music on it, but you get the picture. I am still in shock over it all. I have always wanted my own, but didn't figure that I would have one for quite some time. My Mom's first piano was going to do...
I am one lucky girl!!! I didn't guess this one at all. However, I did find it on Christmas Eve instead of waiting until Christmas morning. But, I couldn't ruin tradition and not know what I was getting before hand!

As for Christmas day. It was glorious. So nice to be home and start our own little traditions.
Opening P.J.'s at night
Opening our stockings first
Tearing through presents
Having a nice breakfast
And to top it off, go to church. I loved going to church on Christmas!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was a little hectic. With unpacking from our trip to Utah, a sick puppy, laundry, neighbor gifts, etc., we were just a little short on time. We got everything done though, and had a great day!

Pre-Christmas Celebration

We were so excited to be in our first home this year, that we couldn't resist spending Christmas at HOME. OUR HOME. For all five years of our marriage, Ty and I have never spent Christmas at our home. We have always been fortunate to spend it at one of our parent's homes, but never in our own bed, in our own family room with our own tree, and eating Christmas breakfast in our own kitchen.
I know...ya get the point.
With all that said, we spent Christmas this year in our home in Middleton. We had an uncontrollable blast. As it was supposed to be our year in Utah with Ty's parents, we decided to head down there the week before Christmas and do a little Pre-Christmas celebrating. Complete with a Christmas Eve feast, opening presents, and looking at Christmas lights at Temple Square. (One of my favorite things.) I even learned  tried to learn to crochet.
More on that later.
But here are a few of my favorite Pre- Christmas celebration photos.
Enjoy!

Celebration

Ty's grandma Peggy and Her twin brother Pink turned 80!
A surprise birthday party was thrown for them the day before their actual birthday (Dec. 18th).
We made the trek to Oakley, Ut for the big event.

It's a Date

Grandpa, Bristol, and Nana

Grandpa and Nana took Bristol on a date to the Build A Bear Workshop.
She. Ate. It. Up.
She picked out her own kitty, her dress, underwear, shoes, purse, and stroller.
She helped stuff it, kissed it's heart, and named her Rapunzel.
And then pushed her through the entire mall, past Santa.
She waved hello, but wouldn't get too close!
On their way back to our house, Bristol said to Grandpa, "Grandpa. Remember to take my DVD out."
Ha! Can't forget her "Alice" movie in Grandpa's car!
What a smarty.
sorry for the red eye ;)

Play Time

Bris and Big T

These two are such a joy.
While I vacuumed, they played in the crib.
And then they played in the crib a little longer...
It is AMAZING what a little change up can do in the play time routine!

FIVE YEARS!

December 28, 2006

We have made it 5 years strong today.
It wasn't hard.
We love each other more today than we did 5 years ago,
which didn't seem possible then.
Happy Anniversary "Babe"!

But the added stress of the holidays, going out of town for six days, and having a sick puppy have just added to it. However, you are about to get a complete update on the last couple of weeks. I won't be falling any more behind!

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas!! And check back tomorrow!

One day I might be able to send a Christmas card to everyone.

 DINGLEHOPPER
aka
FORK

Sweet little Bristol got this wonderful idea from "The Little Mermaid."
SO, if you expect to eat with a fork at our house you might have to wait.

This whole episode of brushing her with a fork has really gotten me thinking about the influence that what our kids watch on TV really has an impact on what they do and how they act. This kid loved her princess movies. Not too bad, especially in limited doses. What do your kids watch on TV? Hope its good!

Caught Reading

I couldn't help but snap this photo of my Mr. reading to Bristol.
She had to read in her princess tent.
I'm glad they fit in there together...almost.

I don't care how or where ya do it, but reading to your kids is so important.
Bristol could be watching her most favorite movie, and she will always stop if I pull out a book.
I hope that my kids' love for books continues.

On our reading list this month are Christmas books!
What are your kids favorites?

December 8, 2011

I found this a bit interesting. What I would have given to be on that subway.
Perhaps he would get an amazingly huge turn out if he did a free concert
that was publicized first?
WOW.
By Wedding Live Band- The Raw Note (Albums)

"In Washington DC , at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, a man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After about four minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.

About four minutes later, the violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

At six minutes, a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

At ten minutes, a three-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.

At forty-five minutes: The musician played continuously. Only six people stopped and listened for a short while. About twenty gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

After one hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.

This experiment raised several questions:

In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

If so, do we stop to appreciate it?

Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made…
How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?"

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

So, the blogging has taken a back seat lately.
Sorry.
The picture taking hasn't however!
We are all excited for Christmas around here.
The Christmas Tree is up and decorated, house lights are on,
and presents are secretly being stashed around the house.
The stockings are hung, and the village is up! We are ready!
And this little man couldn't be any cuter.

My only flaw this month already...
I completely forgot to celebrate St. Nick's Day. Ya, that was supposed to be last night and this morning.
Ugh. What a failure! Maybe I'll remember next year!

Thoughts of Spiritual Uplift

Earlier this week I was asked to help out with a Young Women's activity for our church.
It was on "Choice and Accountability."
I had all of these thoughts prepared, and when I got up there to say it all...
It came out a little jumbled.
SO, here is a little bit of what I meant to say!

Excerpt from Alice In Wonderland:
Alice: "Which path shall I follow?"
Cheshire Cat: "That depends where you want to go. If you do not know where you want
to go, it doesn't matter which path you take."

I believe that it is first important to decide where you want to go and who you want to be before you make decisions. Even those small little decisions every day can be important in determining this.

Second, it is important to prepare yourself for those decisions that will arise in life.
President Monson said, "When the moment for decision arrives, the time for preparation is past."

How do we prepare?

President Monson again suggests that we:
Fill our minds with truth.
Fill our hearts with love.
Fill our lives with service.

Will the decision you make move you closer to your end goal, or pull you farther away?

For me, I would like to live in the eternities with my Heavenly Father, holding my husband and children close by. This is my goal. It's a big one, it takes effort, work, diligence and patience. My Heavenly Father will help me along the way. And my Savior Jesus Christ has made it possible.

Sometimes you might make the wrong decision.
It's ok. There are too many people to help you along the way to give up.
Never give up.

Aha!

A few "Aha" moments of late:

Tytan has never adjusted to the time change. He is up at 6:30. Oops! Never knew!
Puppies are just like newborns. They pee, poop, and sleep.
Bristol's sippy cups aren't working because the holes in the top have melted together in the dish washer.
(Thanks Dad. Never would have thought of that myself!)
And my favorite: Nobody is perfect. Even those who I think have perfect lives/children don't.

I love "Aha" moments. They seem to ground me. It's like that really cold coke that you finally get your thirsty fingers wrapped around on a really hot hot day. Completely refreshing. They make me feel human again. Not that I don't often think or feel like Superwoman some days, but it's nice not to have the pressure of it all.
For instance: Me and the kids were in our P.J.'s until 2PM today.
Ya.
I know.
Terrible.
Hold on hold on....I wasn't feeling too great. So we had a sick party for mom.
Bristol actually brushed my hair off of my forehead.
Completely reminded me of her patting my back as I threw up with morning sickness when Tytan was just a peanut. She is so sweet. I think that I see a little mother personality blooming in her already.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Take a break for yourself today!
